What is the Godiva Teenage Endurance Group?
We are a large and successful coaching group working with young people who enjoy running and racing. We train on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at the Coventry athletics track, University of Warwick, Coventry. Training is either track based or involves running on local road or grass circuits. Athletes on first joining are likely to run between 4 – 7km in a standard club training session.
At what age can I join the group?
This group has a minimum age of 12 (school year 7). Otherwise we welcome membership enquires from all prospective runners aged 13 – 19.
How do I try the Group to see if I want to join?
Entry to the training group is either via transfer from “Godiva Kids” or as a new club member interested in running. Before attending the club, we recommend that the young person is interested in running and has some existing endurance stamina. For safety reasons we will only take young athletes on longer runs away from the track once the coaching team are confident that they are capable of running the distance and are also wearing high visibility clothing.
New athletes induction/trial times
New athletes wishing to join the coaching group will be invited to attend one of our monthly induction/trial dates. These are normally held on the first Thursday of the month at 6.00pm (further details will be sent on completing the enquiry form)
Initially we advise that the interested athlete should trial 2 – 4 sessions (on the Tuesdays or Thursdays following the induction session) to see if they enjoy the experience before proceeding to full club membership. At this point we can supply information on either transferring from Godiva Kids, or joining Coventry Godiva Harriers and registering with England Athletics. During the trial period we would ask that a parent or guardian is present when the athlete attends training.
Club membership after the trial period is compulsory (sorry we cannot offer a turn up, pay and run policy). Formal membership also ensures insurance coverage for our coaching team for all athletes under their supervision which is via our governing body, England Athletics.
